There is an expression today called Slow Living, that can be decribed as a counterpart to the fast and stressful life many are living today. Slow Living focuses on creating a life that has meaning and gives us a purpose, a life where we can cut down on things that are not necessary and focus more on what is here and now. Instead of being caught in a rat race where you are competing for attention, money and fast applause, where you are constantly chasing the latest kick to satisfy that empty hole inside, Slow Living offers a deeper connetion with yourself and the world. When we live slow we seek the right balance between spirituality, sensuality, introspection and community. We see that we are part of a much bigger whole and that what you give out to life is your responsibility.
We realise that down scaling down isn't a bad word and that it may actually give us a chance to be more free to enjoy life in a new, more authentic way. To find inner peace through meditation and being present in the moment doesn't mean that you will have to sit in a lotus position all day long ( promise!) Stillness doesn't mean that you are passiv. You can be creative and joyful, active and productive and, be still and have a sense of peace inside you. It's about being present and more alive in the now. It's about finding time to give that smile to a stranger, sit down,to be present and play with you child or your pet ( without checking your phone at the same time), to go skiing a sunny afternoon or sitting by a fire instead of the stressful and empty feeling that comes of zapping through hundreds of tv channels or working late every night.
Your life is about you, here and now! When we connect with our inner wisdom and slow down we will find that it is possible to live a life that is filled with beauty, joy and gratitude. Slow Living is a movement that is spreading in all areas of life. Amazing people are finding new sustainable ways within agriculture, renewable energy, community building, new economic models are being made etc. There are also a deeper understanding for the old wisdom of the indigenous people, the sacred feminine, a deeper connection with the earth and the understanding of a higher spirituality that comes from realising that we all all one that we are alla strand in the big web of life. If you find a calling of making a change in your life, to slow things down, big or small, know that you are on the discovery of something genuine and truly beautiful.
